- Small spaces (up to 1,500 sq. ft.): Furnace: 40,000 to 60,000 BTUs Heat pump: 2 to 3 tons
- Medium spaces (1,500 to 3,000 sq. ft.): Furnace: 60,000 to 80,000 BTUs Heat pump: 3 to 4 tons
- Large spaces (3,000 to 5,000 sq. ft.): Furnace: 80,000 to 100,000 BTUs Heat pump: 4 to 5 tons
- Retail spaces (1,000 to 2,000 sq. ft.): Furnace: 30,000 to 60,000 BTUs Heat pump: 2 to 3 tons
