HVAC Air Filtration
The air filter in your HVAC system is your first line of defense against airborne contaminants. Our air quality experts will help you select a filter that helps you breathe easy, not just because your indoor environment is free from dust, bacteria, and allergens but also because you're saving money on energy bills and maintenance costs.
Breathe Easy: Your Air Quality Experts Are Here
The average person spends 90% of their time indoors. And with more and more Americans working remotely, we're spending even more time in the home. At Air Control, we believe your home should be a sanctuary, a place where you can relax, recharge, and breathe easy—literally. To ensure your safety and comfort, our team will help you choose the HVAC air filtration option, taking into account:
- Your home’s unique needs, whether you have pets, allergies, or dust issues
- Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value ratings (MERV)
- And system compatibility
Our goal is to help you select a filter that not only keeps your air clean and healthy, but also saves you money on energy bills and maintenance costs.
Understanding the MERV Rating System
Most of our clients are unfamiliar with the MERV rating system used to measure how well an air filter captures bacteria and dust particles. MERV ratings range from 1-16 for residential systems. The higher the number, the more efficiently the filter captures particles.
MERV 1-4: These basic filters are typically used in residential settings where air quality is not a major concern. Air filtration with this MERV rating will capture large dust, lint, and pollen particles.
MERV 5-8: Filters in this range are designed to filter out smaller particles like mold spores, pet dander, and dust mite debris. They are best suited for homeowners with pets or mild allergies.
MERV 9-12: These filters capture tiny particles like fine dust, auto emissions, and legionella, a harmful bacteria. These filters are ideal for those with severe allergies or compromised immune systems.
MERV 13-16: Filters in this range offer the highest level of protection. They will filter out bacteria, smoke, and even sneeze nuclei. Because of this, they are most often used in commercial or hospital settings.
Important note: It is important to consider that filters with higher MERV ratings can restrict airflow, putting undue stress on your HVAC system. This is why it is important to consult with one of our temperature tailors to choose the right filter.

That really depends on the type of filter, your home environment, and the presence of pets or allergies.
